Summit Tech Kick-Off Recap: Connecting Community Through Digital Learning

Digital Leaders Now launched its free digital literacy workshop series in Summit, bringing together residents of all ages for an evening of hands-on learning, connection, and community. Explore highlights from the kickoff event and learn how this initiative is helping build digital confidence across Summit.

On July 24, 2025, Digital Leaders Now (DLN) launched its new series of free digital literacy workshops in Summit, IL, beginning with a hands-on kickoff event rooted in connection, learning, and local pride.

For our founder and CEO, Caroline Sanchez Crozier, this event was personal. A proud alumna of Argo High School and longtime Summit resident, Caroline returned to her hometown to invest in the same community that shaped her. Her story reflects DLN’s mission: creating access, equity, and opportunity through technology.

“Launching this digital literacy series in my hometown and witnessing the community’s hunger to learn and connect was a powerful reminder of why we do this work,” said Caroline.

Held at the Summit Park District, the Community Tech Kick-Off featured interactive learning stations and a bilingual Tech Lotería game. Families rotated through activity tables on everything from online safety to Google Docs, engaging with volunteers and instructors.

One standout moment came from community member Martha Sonka, who shared how a previous DLN cybersecurity workshop helped her earn a certificate and wanted to inspire others to learn as well. “I don’t consider myself a techy person, but I passed the course and learned so much,” she said.

Another highlight took place during our Tech Loteria game, as participants of our Tech Savvy Seniors Program teamed up to compete with the kids on tech knowledge, creating a fun environment as multiple generations bonded over technology.

Beyond the activities, we value the chance to connect directly with parents and seniors to hear what digital skills they want to build next. These conversations will guide our future programming.

Special thanks to our local champions whose support made this event possible:
Village of Summit Mayor Sergio Rodriguez, Illinois State Senator Mike Porfirio, Cook County Commissioner Frank J. Aguilar, Argo High School District 217 Board Member Diane Ponce, Village Trustee Aurora Rodriguez, and Summit Park District Commissioner Tony Cervantes.

This is just the beginning. We’re honored to continue building with the community and to support Summit residents as they grow their confidence, skills, and access in an increasingly digital world.
